I met Marcia a little over a year ago when I tweaked my lower back from a long travel day. Marcia’s combined knowledge of the body and Pilates have completely helped me to strengthen my core and avoid back pain going forward.

Pilates is a form of total body conditioning aimed to strengthen, increase flexibility, improve balance, and enhance overall movement. This evolved from an exercise system invented by Joseph Pilates in the early 1900's called Contrology. Movement involves both mind and body. As Joseph Pilates stated, “One of the major results of Contrology is gaining the mastery of your mind over the complete control of your body”.

At Canvas Pilates, we want our clients to thrive in their bodies. Collectively, through our hands-on guidance coupled with the individual’s concentration, we foster a deeper mind-body connection & guide the body to move more dynamically with precision and maximum efficiency. The result is a “renewed sense of physical vitality” & “elevated spirit”!

What is Classical Pilates?

The classical pilates method follows a sequential order of exercises designed to work the body through a full range of movements that was originally intended by Joseph Pilates. The repertoire starts with foundational exercises and increases with complexity as you build strength and control. Clients get to know the exercises and can feel their progression! Classical pilates teachers undergo extensive training requiring a minimum of 675 hours. The program covers mat and all pilates apparatus exercises, biomechanics, anatomy, & case studies covering a vast range of conditions including disk herniations, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, MS, scoliosis, & sports related injuries. At Canvas Pilates, our foundation is based on the Classical method, but we also integrate other movement modalities and techniques to create a program that’s right for you & gets you to achieving your goals!
